An AME can clear you in the following three situations:
1. If you were diagnosed with COVID and recovered …
• No hospitalization
• No supplemental oxygen
• No investigational medications
… then report at next medical with a good current status report from your treating physician.
2. If you were diagnosed with COVID and required an ER visit …
• No supplemental oxygen
• No hypoxia
• Treated with Z-Pak and prednisone
• Recovered with no residual symptoms
… then report at next medical with ER records and tests and a good current status report from your treating physician or pulmonologist.
3. If you were diagnosed with COVID and required an overnight ER visit …
• Supplemental oxygen
• Abnormal CT scan or CXR
• Quick recovery
… then report at next medical with ER records and tests, hospital records, a normal CT or CXR, plus good notes from a pulmonologist.
FAA Clearance Required
The FAA will need to clear you in the following two situations:
1. If you were diagnosed with COVID and required hospitalization beyond the ER …
• Supplemental oxygen
• Medication (Remdesivir or Regeneron)
• Abnormal CT or CXR
• More than one night in hospital
… then send to FAA for clearance with current status report from pulmonologist, PFTs, 6MWT and normal radiology study.
2. If you were diagnosed with COVID and required hospitalization longer than observation …
• Supplemental oxygen
• Medication (Remdesivir or Regeneron)
• Cardiology or pulmonary consult
• No rapid recovery
… then send to FAA for clearance with current status report from pulmonologist and cardiologist if needed, PFTs, 6MWT
